Despite the EU imposing sanctions against Russian seafood in particular, EU countries still import mainly cod and pollock from Russia to a value of around seven billion kronor a year.
In addition, Russian fish products worth at least another six billion kronor arrive via China, according to a report presented to the EU Parliament's Fisheries Committee on Wednesday.
"Deeply shameful," says Swedish member Isabella Lövin (MP), who is demanding that the Swedish government push for a total ban on the import of Russian fish.
"We need to review all the opportunities we have to pressure Putin and his war economy," Lövin writes in a statement via text message.
