The bear had "opened the refrigerator and spread its contents," according to police, who were called to the home.

Footprints reportedly indicated that the animal had also been looking for food waste in a trash can outside the home. However, it does not appear to have caused any major damage and left the house through the kitchen entrance.

It is the 14th household in the town of Shizukuishi to report an intruding bear in just over two weeks, writes The Guardian. Authorities have taken up the hunt for the bear using traps and electric fences.

At least five people have been killed by bears in Japan since April 1. In June, a four-day hunt for a bear terrorized residents of a town just north of Tokyo.
