It was the fourth straight win for Edmonton, which took control of the match against Boston directly in the first period.
When the third period began, it was 3–0, with two goals scored by Adam Henrique. Viktor Arvidsson took the opportunity to add to the result with 4–0 in an empty net. It was the 31-year-old's fifth goal of the season.
Pittsburgh's Rickard Rakell shone in the home game against Columbus. Two straight goals in the beginning of the third period gave a 3–1 lead. The visitors reduced the lead only two minutes later and equalized at the end of the period. The match went to penalties, where Columbus won 4–3.
We played well in overtime and controlled almost the entire period, but lost our grip during the penalties, says a disappointed Rakell to reporters after the match.
Record by Brodin
In Minnesota's 6–4 triumph over St Louis, Joel Eriksson Ek and Marcus Johansson were credited with one goal each. Defender Jonas Brodin got an assist but contributed more with his presence in Minnesota's fourth straight win.
Brodin set a personal NHL record with his 33.02 minutes on the ice, the second-most playing time of all players this season.
No matter if it goes up or down, we just keep playing our game. I think that's really good. Now we just need to keep doing it for the rest of the season, says Brodin to AP.
Halfway through the regular season, he's enjoying life.
It's fun to play in those situations. I love playing those moments on the ice. It's what you dreamed of as a kid, playing those really tight matches and shifts. I love it.
When you're out on the ice, you forget how tired you are.
How do you recover?
I don't know. I might order a pizza or something, says Brodin.
Vegas is rolling on
Top team Vegas took their third straight win, 4–2 away against San Jose. William Karlsson set up Mark Stone's leading goal.
William Eklund, assisted by Alexander Wennberg, gave San Jose contact with his 1–2 goal.
Fabian Zetterlund was sent off for slashing with three seconds left of the second period. A minute into the third, Vegas took advantage of the numerical superiority through Victor Olofsson. The same Olofsson was sitting out a penalty when Timothy Liljegren reduced, assisted by Eklund and Fabian Zetterlund.
No closer did San Jose get. Czech Tomas Hertl scored 4–2 in an empty net for Vegas.
