A couple of dozen Palestine demonstrators were arrested on Saturday evening in connection with the World Championship qualifying match in football between Norway and Israel in Oslo, according to NRK. Now several have been released – against up to 18,000 Norwegian kronor in fines, writes Aftenposten.

Prior to the kick-off at 6 pm on Saturday evening, 1,000 people demonstrated against the war in Gaza. After the match started, some demonstrators ended up in physical confrontation with the police and tried to get past the barriers, according to the police for NRK. Tear gas was used to gain control of the situation.

About twenty people were arrested in connection with the unrest and have been detained overnight. The police do not want to disclose what they are suspected of.

On Sunday morning, the police tell Aftenposten that several demonstrators have been released, and that even more will be released shortly. Several have received fines of up to 18,000 Norwegian kronor.

The World Championship qualifying match between Norway and Israel, which ended 5–0 to the home team, took place under major security measures. A bag ban was in effect at the Ullevål stadium where the match was played and the roads outside were closed.
