The Swedish Armed Forces are following a Russian submarine through the Baltic Sea with fighter jets and warships. We are following it and have control of the situation, says the Swedish Armed Forces' press chief Jonas Beltrane Linné.

The Russian submarine went into the Baltic Sea via the Great Belt on Tuesday. The fact that the Swedish Armed Forces are following it is described as a routine operation, which takes place in collaboration with Sweden's NATO allies.

It is in international waters. This is routine. This kind of thing happens, says Beltrane Linné.

Since it has been visible, we want to be clear that the Swedish Armed Forces have control over the situation and have control over the Russian submarine.

According to SVT it appears to be about Novorossiysk, which was noticed last week when the Dutch military announced that they, together with the United Kingdom, had followed the vessel in the North Sea. Novorossiysk is said to have traveled from the Mediterranean, but been hit by technical problems. This led NATO chief Mark Rutte to comment on the submarine's situation with schadenfreude.

What a change since Tom Clancy's novel from 1984, "The Hunt for Red October", he is reported to have said in a speech on Monday.

Today it seems more like the hunt for the nearest workshop.
