President Javier Mileis' chief of staff Guillermo Franco announced the matter last week.
Defense Minister Luis Petri now claims that the files contain new leads on who financed the Nazis' living in Argentina – and how it was done.
Argentina was once a Nazi refuge. Nazi leaders such as Mengele, Priebke, and Eichmann lived here, but it was not just them. It is estimated that around 5,000 Nazis may have lived or passed through Argentina between 1945 and 1955, says Petri according to Clarín.
According to the Defense Minister, the documents can shed light on how certain banks – not only Argentine but also European – "worked to facilitate and conceal the handling" of the Nazis' money.
