Aregawi will run 5,000 meters in the Brussels Diamond League gala on August 22 and then in the Finnkampen at Stockholm's stadium two days later.
The goal is to clear the direct qualifying limit for the World Championship in Tokyo in September, the time 14.50,00. The last day to qualify is August 24.
"Very happy"
"I'm very happy to compete in both Brussels and Stockholm next week," says Aregawi in a press release from the Swedish Athletics Association.
The 35-year-old, who won the World Championship gold for Sweden in the 1,500 meters in Moscow in 2013, lives in Ethiopia and has not competed for the Swedish national team in several years.
Before the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in 2016, she was stopped suspected of having taken the doping-classified substance meldonium, but was later acquitted because the levels of the banned substance were so low. Aregawi has since been away from international competition and had several children.
Struck Swedish record
In March this year, she ran a half marathon in 1.06.36 in Lisbon, which was a Swedish record. But the time was struck because Aregawi had not made herself available for doping control six months before the competition, which is a requirement.
Now Aregawi is allowed to compete and get approved results again.
"She has followed the routines for residence reporting, she has also had contact with the national team doctor regarding possible dietary supplements and has also had regular contact with our performance center for middle and long distance regarding training and planning," says national team captain Kajsa Bergqvist.
