"There is a photograph I have on my phone of my dad and me on the beach when I was a child. I often say to that boy: "We did well, lad", says the Oscar-winning actor in a statement from publisher Summit Books.
Hopkins, 87, known for films like "The Silence of the Lambs", "The Father" and "The Remains of the Day", writes in the book about his childhood in Wales, his stage career and his personal struggles, including how his drinking ruined his first marriage and how he has been sober for nearly half a century.
"I wonder how a boy from Wales, son of a baker, got here. My whole life is a big mystery. This book is my story", Hopkins continues about the book, which is released on November 4.
