The ship suspected of causing the cable break between Finland and Estonia on New Year's Eve dragged its anchor tens of kilometers, police say.

During seabed surveys, a several-kilometer-long tow track has been found along the route of the suspected ship Fitburg, Yle reports.

One of the ship's crew members was detained on Sunday. The crew consists of 14 people from Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan.

The 132-meter-long cargo ship was en route from St. Petersburg in Russia to Haifa in Israel when it was stopped by border guards and taken to port.

The police are investigating the cable theft as aggravated vandalism, as well as suspected attempted aggravated vandalism and suspected aggravated disruption of postal and telecommunications traffic.
