The latest World Championship in Qatar was constantly plagued by questions about the country's human rights and working conditions for migrant workers.
Now Saudi Arabia appears to be standing as the host for the 2034 Men's Football World Championship, and human rights organization Amnesty is sounding the alarm about similar problems.
In a press release, Amnesty publishes a report made in collaboration with the organization Sport & Rights Alliance.
Based on this, they are urging Fifa to slow down the selection process and refrain from choosing Saudi Arabia unless significant measures are taken regarding human rights.
"There will be a real and predictable human cost if the hosting of the 2034 World Championship is awarded to Saudi Arabia, unless credible guarantees of change are given", says Amnesty's head of labor rights and sports department Steve Cockburn in a press release and continues:
"Supporters will be discriminated against, residents will be forcibly evicted, migrant workers will be exploited, and many will die."
On December 11, Fifa will hold a congress, where a decision on the hosting may be made.
