Last Friday, four stranded sperm whales were found on the Danish coast in the North Sea, and two more were found the following day.

On Saturday, two of them had not yet been declared dead and the Danish environmental authority chose to wait for a natural death. The last survivor, a sperm whale that stranded at southern Fanø, is said to be 13.6 meters long.

The animals' jaws will now be sent for analysis at the University of Copenhagen. They are all believed to be young males, but why they ended up off course and stranded is still unclear.

Also at the turn of January and February, sperm whales stranded along the Danish coast, then as far north as Ålbæk Bugt and in Blåvand further south, near Esbjerg.
