"Akesson: 'Time for Delivery'"

Jimmie Åkesson is pleased with what the Tidö parties have achieved so far. But when it comes to the future of the cooperation, he is unwavering. We will not allow any government to take office that we ourselves do not sit in, says the SD leader to TT.

After two years of preparations, it's time for delivery for The Moderate Party's politics, emphasizes Åkesson.

In his speech to party members, who gather over the weekend for municipal and regional days in Norrköping, Åkesson raised questions about access to welfare, continued measures to combat gang crime and stricter requirements for citizenship.

At the same time, Åkesson points out that a party that gets 20 percent of the votes cannot get through 100 percent of its politics.

We must negotiate and compromise, it's incredibly frustrating, he said.

Have been very clear

When it comes to the future of the Tidö cooperation, Åkesson is however determined:

We have been very clear since the Tidö negotiations that this is a temporary solution. It's up to the other parties to relate to it. We will not allow a government that we ourselves are not part of.

He began the speech, however, by promising unwavering support to Israel and Ukraine. At the same time, he criticized the government for not "clearly marking" against the arrest warrant recently issued against Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu.

Just like in the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, it's not possible to remain neutral when it comes to good and evil. One cannot hesitate between terror and democracy, said Jimmie Åkesson and added that Sweden should stand behind Israel "with the same commitment and force" as we stand behind Ukraine.

Special legislation for gang criminals

In the question of crime, Jimmie Åkesson emphasized that the SD and the government should investigate special legislation for gang criminals, such as curfews and tougher measures against recruitment.

At the same time, he says it will take several years, maybe several terms of office, to address such a "deep-seated problem" in society.

But together with the government, we take steps – big steps – in the right direction.
