The alarm about the shooting came at 15.27 yesterday. A 65-year-old man was shot dead inside a store. A police patrol was in the vicinity, and the police who intervened were shot at and returned fire. At the same time, a suspected perpetrator was arrested in the vicinity.
According to information in several media outlets, the deceased man is said to be related to someone in the criminal gang environment.
We heard the bangs and saw from our balcony how people ran from the scene, says Jenny, who lives near the murder site.
Fear – but not surprise
The morning after, she lays down tulips next to the murder site, alongside two candles. It's all that bears witness to the shooting, except for a police car that creeps by on the pedestrian paths.
I think regardless of who you are and who you're related to, you deserve some flowers, she says.
She is herself worried, but says at the same time that she's not surprised.
You're unfortunately quite used to something happening as a resident of Stockholm, it's just a shame.
Some children are playing in a preschool's enclosed outdoor area, just a few dozen meters from the crime scene. Imani Kagemanova had just finished work at the preschool when she saw the blue lights on Wednesday afternoon.
Since there were a lot of police cars and ambulances, I understood it was something serious. It was uncomfortable. I walked a few stations down to get as far away as possible, she says.
No children were outside when the shooting occurred. A parent has chosen to keep their child home the day after the incident due to what happened.
I'm glad we weren't out with the kids. It feels unsafe. You feel unsafe at work, and you worry about the kids too.
"Wonderful place"
Despite the shooting, several residents who TT has spoken to think the area is safe and highlight the sense of community that exists here, even though the violence affects it.
But there's violence elsewhere too, says a 20-year-old woman who wants to remain anonymous.
She was on her way home from school when she saw the cordons and police deployment.
I was quite shocked, she continues. It was daytime, after all.
Another resident in the area, who also doesn't want to give their name, agrees with the picture.
This is a wonderful place to live, if you disregard the fact that things happen, but they do everywhere.
I don't feel any greater fear, she continues.
