Eight people have already been sentenced to death, just weeks after their arrest, in what the human rights organization describes as hasty trials.
In addition, another 22 people arrested in connection with the protests risk being sentenced to death. Among them are two 17-year-olds.
Amnesty calls on the Iranian regime to overturn the sentences and put an end to what the organization calls unfair trials where confessions are often forced through torture.
“By using the death penalty as a weapon, they are trying to spread fear among a population that is demanding fundamental change,” said Diana Eltahawy, Deputy Director of Amnesty’s Middle East and North Africa Department, in a press release.
