LeBron James has a series of record streaks in American basketball, but one of the most difficult to beat came to an end on Friday night Swedish time and in the away game against Toronto.
In the final seconds, James had a total of 8 points and needed another two-pointer to keep his streak alive with a double-digit scoring streak in every game played, a streak that began on January 6, 2007 and spanned 18 years.
But instead of taking the final shot of the game himself, he passed to teammate Rui Hachimura who in turn made a three-pointer that meant victory for the Los Angeles Lakers, 123–120. LeBron James thus finished with 8 points but with no regrets about his decision.
"No, we won," he replied shortly afterwards.
James' record streak is now by far the longest in NBA history. Michael Jordan is second with 866 games while Kareem Abdul-Jabbar achieved the feat in 787 games.
