This corresponds to 10 percent fewer rats being caught than the previous year. The decline is believed to be due to infestations being detected earlier using digital methods such as sensors.
Filming in sewer systems has also been an effective method, according to the company.
"To solve rat problems in the long term, both professional efforts and people doing their part in preventive work are needed," says Magnus Rosenholm, pest expert at Anticimex, in a press release.
Indoor:
* Don't leave food out and empty the pantry if you're going to be away for a long time.
* Seal gaps in the home, such as around pipes under the sink and near radiators.
* Keep storage areas like basements and attics tidy, and store on shelves, not floors.
* Avoid pouring grease or food residue down the drain.
Outdoor:
* Repair holes and cracks around the house and on the facade.
* Place metal mesh over valves and the like.
* Avoid storing firewood, garden furniture and the like near the facade.
* Keep lids on garbage cans tight and keep other edible items away from the house.
