Around 50,000 customers who leased a new car may have paid too much to the Norwegian bank DNB. The total amount involved is billions of kronor, according to the Consumer Ombudsman.

The Consumer Ombudsman (KO) has, for the first time in ten years, filed a class action lawsuit with the Swedish National Board of Complaints, which is a very unusual action, KO writes in a press release.

KO believes that approximately 50,000 car leasing customers have paid too much to DNB.

DNB marketed the monthly cost of car rental as fixed, despite this, the bank has used price adjustment terms in the agreement as interest rates rose.

If all consumers were to get their money back, it would be, if not the largest, then one of the largest. An estimate suggests that it would be in the billions, says Kristofer Johanneson, Deputy Consumer Ombudsman, to Ekot.

The trial is expected to take around a year and will involve 50,000 leasing customers at DNB during the period 2020 to February 2023.
