September 17: The red-green parties win the election with 176 seats against the Tidö parties’ 173. Ulf Kristersson resigns as prime minister and now leads a caretaker government. Magdalena Andersson (S) gives a victory speech.

September 18: Magdalena Andersson receives the first exploratory mandate.

September 27: V announces that it will vote for moderate Andreas Norlén as Speaker.

September 28: Magdalena Andersson returns the exploratory mandate.

October 2: The Speaker returns the mandate to Magdalena Andersson and announces that she will be put to a vote as prime minister.

October 9: The red-green parties meet at Högberga gård on Lidingö to develop a common understanding of Sweden’s challenges.

October 13: The S leader announces that the conditions are not in place for her to form a government.

October 15: The Riksdag votes down Magdalena Andersson in a vote for prime minister. All parties except S vote no.

October 19: Centre Party leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist is tasked with exploring the possibility of a centre-right government, with support from the Sweden Democrats (MP), S, C, KD and L, led by Magdalena Andersson.

October 26: Thand Ringqvist reports back that there is no support for such a centre-right government.

October 29: The Speaker announces that he is putting forward the C leader as a candidate for prime minister.

November 3: The Riksdag will vote on Thand Ringqvist. If she is voted down, M leader Ulf Kristersson will be tasked with trying to form a government.

November 10: Ulf Kristersson will report back to the Speaker on this date.
