Many employees lacked work permits – and are suspected of having worked under "unreasonable conditions". Now several companies in an industrial area north of Lysekil are being investigated for, among other things, human exploitation.

It was during an inspection last week that a larger number, a total of 36 people, who worked in the industrial area turned out to lack valid work permits. Several companies are now being investigated for crimes against the Aliens Act, in addition, a preliminary investigation is underway on suspected human exploitation.

"This is a recurring problem we see, where several layers of subcontractors lead to a lack of control over where the workforce comes from or if they have permission to work in Sweden”, says Mattias Eklöf, section manager at the border police, to the police's website.

"When you hire this kind of company, it not only comes with obvious safety risks, but also an impending risk that people will be exploited”.
