20 bodies, several of them beheaded, have been found on a highway bridge in a part of Mexico where factions of the notorious Sinaloa cartel are fighting each other, according to prosecutors in the state of Sinaloa.
Four headless bodies were found by the roadside, while 16 were discovered in an abandoned vehicle. Five heads were found in a bag at the scene.
Violence has increased sharply in the northwestern state since the cartel's co-founder Ismael "El Mayo" Zambada was arrested almost a year ago. The arrest has been followed by bloody conflicts between his relatives and a former leader and co-founder Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán's sons.
According to official figures, more than 1,200 people have been killed in the conflict.
