Storm Johannes has also begun to subside in Finland. However, as of Sunday evening, around 38,000 households were still without power, and power may not be restored for some time.

The winter storm, named Hannes in Finland, eased around 9 a.m., according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute. Tens of thousands of households are without power, and according to the electricity distribution company Caruna, it could take several days to repair the power grid.

Although the storm has subsided, yellow warnings for strong winds cover the weather map along the coast from the Gulf of Finland to Northern Ostrobothnia.

The strong winds and fallen trees on roads and power lines have caused major problems for rail and road traffic, and emergency services have been busy responding to calls.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo thanked all rescue workers, repair workers and volunteers who responded to the storm on X.

In Norway, Leknes Airport in Lofoten was forced to close due to blown-off wind gauges. Six arriving and as many departing flights to the airport on Sunday were canceled, NTB reports.

Many residents of Nordland have also had problems with mobile coverage, as over 100 of Telenor's base stations were down.
