Sokolov, who competes for Qatar, went through Thursday's first round of Qatar Masters with 75 strokes, three over par, and has thus given himself the opportunity to clear the qualifying limit.
It is the second time Sokolov plays on the DP World Tour. Already last year, as a 12-year-old, he received a special invitation to the tournament in Doha. That time, he missed the qualifying limit.
The 13-year-old was born in South Korea but is a Russian citizen, and moved to Qatar with his parents when he was five years old. Sokolov started Thursday's game with two birdies on the first four holes. In the end, he landed on three birdies, four bogeys, and one double bogey.
He is provisionally 105th, but a number of players did not manage to complete the round before it was interrupted due to darkness.
Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, Denmark, and Brandon Robinson Thompson, England, are in shared lead on six under par.
