The hothouse in Lövstabruk is part of a digital tour of the village. Its foundations were laid in 1735, and it has traditionally been used to grow plants for Lövstabruk’s Garden. Lead-muntin windows originally fitted to the building were replaced with puttied arches in the late 1750s.

A glazed partition was added on the south side in the 1800s. It housed agaves, dahlias and geraniums over winter, and is still used for that purpose. The partition is a later addition to the hothouse, with its own role in keeping the garden’s plants through the colder season.

Around the turn of the 20th century, the hothouse was a focal point in the extensive garden grounds tended by Johan Olof Strindberg, the grounds prefect and younger brother of author August Strindberg. Today, the building houses a nursery and is managed by Sweden’s National Property Board. The digital-tour entry connects the building’s history to its continuing plant-growing use.
