Artist Klas Brattberg will demonstrate karvsnitt (chip carving) and kolrosning, two techniques for working in wood, then lead a workshop where visitors can try them. The session is free, requires no advance booking and is open to all ages.
Brattberg works mainly with wood and also paints. Storytelling is important to his art, whose themes often include climate, the future and mental ill-health. His knowledge draws on traditional techniques in craftwork and oil painting. He also works as a painter in the scenery workshop at Uppsala City Theatre.
The programme is organised by Konstfrämjandet Uppland, with support from Lyftet Storbrunn and Östhammars municipality, in collaboration with Galleri Sadelmakarlängan. Brattberg is due to present a solo exhibition at the gallery later this month.
