Solna Strand is on Stockholm’s blue subway line, number 10. The station’s art by Japanese artist Takashi Naraha sets heavenly cubes against a dark cave. The cubes jut out from the ceiling and platform; a black cube stands just outside the station entrance.

The contrast is part of Naraha’s yin-and-yang theme. Art guide Marie Andersson describes balance between light and darkness as the foundation of his pieces. At Solna Strand, the cubes on the platform mirror the open sky above ground, while the black cube outside the entrance relates to the dark cave below ground.

Visitors can compare the forms in their different positions: the cubes overhead and on the platform, the black cube at the entrance, and the cave-like darkness below. The artwork links the open sky above ground with the dark cave below through the mirrored cubes and the black cube. Solna Strand is a subway stop on line 10, so the art is in the station’s platform-and-entrance setting.
