Robert Nilsson and Barbro Nilsson’s work is the subject of a retrospective now on at Millesgården. Barbro (1899–1983), who grew up on Lidingö, was a textile artist with international influence and artistic director of AB Märta Måås-Fjetterström’s weaving studio. She was the daughter of landscape architect Emma Lundberg. Robert (1894–1980), who grew up in Höganäs, was a sculptor and student of Carl Milles. He was a central figure in Swedish artistic life, though he is now somewhat overlooked.
The exhibition brings together textiles, sculpture and painting, alongside sketches, models and archival material. It looks at the couple’s collaboration and their work with students, painters and architects, including Sven X:et Erixson and Sigurd Lewerentz. The exhibition is a collaboration with Blå Hallen in Höganäs, with guest curators Xi Wallén Keller and Martin Enget. It draws on preserved material shown at Blå Hallen in summer 2024.
Millesgården presents exhibitions throughout the year in a bright, spacious hall where architecture and nature meet. The venue is 20 minutes from central Stockholm.
