Den Gyldene Freden is at Österlånggatan 51 in Stockholm’s Old Town. Visit Stockholm describes it as a classic restaurant in a medieval basement. The Swedish Academy, which selects the Nobel Prize in Literature, owns it. A legend says that Nobel prizes have been decided at the Academy’s regular table there.

The menu features classic Swedish cooking with contemporary touches, according to Visit Stockholm. The restaurant’s website describes Swedish food traditions as changing with the seasons, and names nettles, asparagus, apples, goose, crayfish and herring as examples. These are examples of seasonal traditions, not a guarantee of what is on the menu this week.

The restaurant has two named dining rooms: Stormen on the ground floor and the Gamla Stan vaults. Online bookings are available for groups of up to eight. Stormen takes bookings for up to six and also has space for walk-in guests. Groups larger than eight should contact the restaurant by email. The website does not give prices or a visit duration.
