Bergius Botanic Garden is in Frescati on Stockholm’s northern Djurgården, beside Lake Brunnsviken. Its outdoor sections feature plants from around the world. A walk can take you from the Japanese Pond to the Italian Terrace and the Öland and Gotland sections. The garden traces its origins to Bergielund, founded by the Bergius brothers in the 18th century.
The outdoor sections are open all year and free. Edvard Anderson Conservatory is also open year-round. The Victoria House contains giant water lilies and other aquatic plants, but opens only from May through September, so it is closed this week, at the start of November. Visit Stockholm says the Victoria House has the world’s largest water lily. It also lists a café, shop and restaurant at the garden.
From the Universitetet stop, reached by the red metro line, Roslagsbanan and several buses, it is about a five-minute walk to the garden. The garden’s website says there is something to see in every season and links to detailed opening hours and prices. Check that information before visiting the conservatories.
