The boat trip leaves Klara Mälarstrand in central Stockholm and takes about 60 minutes to reach Drottningholm. The classic service uses the M/S Prins Carl Philip, a historic vessel that stops at Fridhem, Mälarhöjdsbadet and Kungshättan before reaching the palace. Tickets can be for a return journey or one way. The site also offers lunch on selected departures; it does not give fare amounts.

A café serving sandwiches, pastries, snacks and drinks is available on M/S Prins Carl Philip. During high season, June 25 to August 22, Stromma describes extra daily departures on the faster, more modern Express boat, M/S Nya Hjelmare Kanal. That seasonal window has passed for 2026. The vessel assigned to each departure is shown during booking.

Drottningholm Palace is a 17th-century palace and has been the royal couple’s permanent residence since 1981. The grounds include the palace, gardens, the Chinese Pavilion and Drottningholm Palace Theatre. Visitors can tour the palace, visit the pavilion with an audio guide or join a guided tour of the theatre. The park is open year-round. Admission to the palace, Chinese Pavilion and theatre can be added when booking the boat ticket.

Good to know

For a stop at Fridhem, Mälarhöjdsbadet or Kungshättan, raise the semaphore on the pier to signal the captain. Check the vessel shown for your departure when booking.
