Strängnäs Cathedral is open daily from 10:00 to 16:00 now, with limited hours possible when school programmes are held. From 15 June to 31 August 2027, it is scheduled to open from 10:00 to 18:00. A short guided tour runs daily in summer at 14:00, starting in the narthex, and lasts 30 minutes. The tour does not run if a baptism, wedding or funeral is taking place. The church asks visitors to book tours well in advance by phone or email.

The oldest part, known as the “core church”, began to be built around 1250. According to tradition, parts of the church could have been consecrated in 1291. The original brick building was completed in the 1330s; the choir, sacristies, tower and side chapels were added during the Middle Ages. After a fire in 1723, the tower received its present Baroque-style cap. The pews, lamps on the pillars, choir furnishings and organ façade date from a 1907–10 restoration. The walls and vaults were cleaned during work in 1988–93.

You can drive up to the church if walking is difficult, but parking is not allowed on the square west of the church, in front of the cathedral’s sheds or on the paths around it. Buses are directed to the bus parking on Storgatan; cars to the parking by Djäknehallen or at Stora torget.
