The present timber church was consecrated in 1667, after the medieval church on the site was demolished in 1666. Anders Falck painted its interior between 1693 and 1695, directly onto the timber. The scenes trace biblical events from the Creation to the Last Judgement and the heavenly Jerusalem. Old Testament scenes appear on the south wall, New Testament scenes on the north wall, and the ceiling depicts the Last Judgement. Look for Moses and Aaron beside the altar.
The altar screen was given to the church in 1677 and painted by Falck in 1703. The oak pulpit dates to 1670. A former burial chapel on the south side became the sacristy in 1771; it now holds a small museum with objects from the 17th century, portraits of Johan Printz and his wife, and miniatures of a ship Printz travelled on to America and the first church in New Sweden. The medieval stone baptismal font is probably from the 13th century.
