The United Kingdom will ban the opening of new coal mines, according to the country's Energy Minister Michael Shanks. "By consigning coal power to history, we can pave the way for a clean, secure energy system", writes Shanks in a statement, where he also promises that the plans will have positive effects for electricity consumers.
