The police regional command centre handled around 70 cases relating to Södermanland overnight, between 22:00 and 07:00.

23:00 Police were called to an address outside Strängnäs following an assault. A caller said that the woman, who had fled to a safe place, had been assaulted by a man she knows well. Patrol officers interviewed those present. An ambulance treated the woman, who was in pain, before taking her to hospital.

The suspect, a man in his 50s, was arrested by police at the address.

The crime scene was in disarray and there were blood traces. The building has been completely cordoned off pending a technical examination.

A preliminary investigation has been opened into attempted murder or aggravated assault, as well as unlawful deprivation of liberty.

The man was later detained during the night. The woman’s condition is unknown.
