Elderly couples targeted by fraud and lost gold jewelry.
A couple in their 80s in central Stockholm has received an SMS from a petrol station. Since then, they have spoken to someone who claimed to be from the back and stated that the card was stolen and that they needed to weigh the gold. After that, a man appeared and took the gold jewelry. A complaint will be written regarding gross fraud.
Police advice on how to protect yourself
Don't let unknown people into your home. Close the door if something feels off. The police or serious companies never come home to collect bank cards, codes, or valuable items. Don't leave out sensitive information or valuable items.
Hang up the phone. If someone calls and claims to be from the bank, a government agency, or a relative who needs help and you feel uncertain – end the call.
Don't log in anywhere on someone else's request. Never use BankID or leave out codes after someone has called you.
Don't click on unknown links. Don't open links in SMS or emails that you don't trust. Look up official contact information yourself if you're unsure.
Check which security solutions the bank has as an option. For example, if they have double signing or time delay on larger transactions. Choose that if possible.
In the event of ongoing crime, call 112. If the crime is not ongoing, contact the police on 114 14.
