Increased risk of quad bike thefts in Jämtland
The police see an increase in quad bike thefts in the police region North. After three quad bike thefts in Västerbotten in recent times, the police now have indications that suspected perpetrators/thieves may be moving south towards Jämtland.
Suspected activity has been reported in recent times in the area around Offerdal.
The police therefore urge increased vigilance and advise owners of quad bikes and other off-road vehicles to exercise extra caution. This applies to the whole of Jämtland, but especially in the area around Offerdal and Funäsdalen.
The police also want to receive tips and observations without geographical preferences regarding movement around places where there are quad bikes. If you see unfamiliar vehicles or people, please try to note specific details such as license plate numbers.
Tips can be submitted via 114 14 or on polisen.se. Always call 112 in the event of ongoing crime!
Advice to reduce the risk of theft:
- Park the quad bike in a garage or a well-lit place. Garages and places can be preferably alarmed, preferably with a camera.
- Keep the car keys in a safe place, do not leave them right next to the front door or in the jacket pocket.
- Use enhanced protection with tracking possibility in real-time, for example a GPS puck.
- Mark the quad bike with theft protection.
- Request a warning on your vehicle via Transportstyrelsen. In that way, organized gangs cannot get information about which vehicles are registered at your address.
- Cooperate with your neighbors, help each other to keep an eye out for unfamiliar people and vehicles.
- Report to the police if you have been subjected to attempted theft or theft.
