Crime in a close relationship
By crime in a close relationship, we mean a crime where the perpetrator, the person who commits the crime, has or has had a close relationship with the victim.
A close relationship can mean that they are or have been married, cohabiting, or living apart together, or have common children. In a close relationship, children, parents, and siblings of the perpetrator are also included.
The crimes can involve:
- physical violence
- psychological violence, or
- sexual violence.
It can also be a crime where the victim is forced or threatened, locked in, or someone is found at home without permission.
Crimes in close relationships often occur at home and are therefore difficult for the police to detect.
