In February, a number of break-ins have occurred at construction sites in the Öst police region. Primarily, the break-ins have taken place in Södermanland County.

Thefts have been committed at several locations in Södermanland. Among other things, Eskilstuna, Flen and Katrineholm.

The stolen goods have a high value and amount to several million kronor. These thefts can, seen in terms of the method, be linked to thefts that have occurred in neighboring police regions. Among other things, Region Mitt, with among other things Uppsala and Enköping, has been affected and it seems that these thieves are moving around Mälaren.

The break-ins at construction sites often occur by the perpetrators taking apart locks on containers and then stealing expensive tools and machines. Often the initial surveillance cameras and lighting are destroyed to avoid detection.

The police want to prevent further crimes by urging the public to be aware of who is moving around construction sites. The police also want to urge companies operating construction sites to think about security and lock valuable equipment in as secure a way as possible.

Since the current type of crime often moves around, the appeal also applies to places near Södermanland's county, among other things Uppland, Västmanland and Gävleborg's counties.

Anyone who sees something that can be linked to the thefts is urged to call 11414, if the situation is urgent or if a ongoing crime is witnessed, one should call 112.
