Elderly woman cheated out of money.
The police received a call from a relative to an 80-year-old woman in Sävsjö.
It turned out that the woman had received an SMS that looked like it was from a pharmacy, with the instruction to call. When the woman did so, she was deceived into providing information and making transfers.
The police have been on site and filed a report on fraud.
This type of crime is unfortunately very common. It is called telephone fraud or vishing, and the scammers use different methods to initially scare the victim into a defensive position, and then offer to help.
The police's sharp warning is: Be bold and be rude!
Never ring unknown numbers in SMS. Never call on someone else's instruction. If someone calls you who you do not know - hang up. Discuss this with relatives and friends so that we can together make it harder for these scammers who target the vulnerable in our society.
