Report theft of catalytic converter.
The police in Bergslagen, primarily in the Värmland Police District and Örebro County Police District, see that some catalytic converters are being stolen from parked cars.
This type of crime is very difficult to investigate since there are rarely any witnesses and it can be hard to find traces of such a crime.
However, in order to make it easier for the police to proceed with such an investigation, there are a few things we would like to be helped with.
Most of those affected make a report through Polisen.se and we see that these reports often come in late after the crime has been committed, that there is a lack of relevant information in the reports, and that it can be difficult to get in touch with the person affected.
We therefore want people to make a report instead, as far as possible, via 11414.
We also want people to avoid moving the car, if possible, except that they may back their car up against a snowbank or a wall of some kind.
This in order to make it easier to make a decision if a crime scene investigation should be carried out, for example.
Although it may be difficult to secure traces from a disconnected exhaust pipe, there may be other traces. The perpetrator may have injured themselves so that there is blood, they may have thrown a cigarette butt or a snus pellet or something similar.
If you see a crime in progress, you should call 112 and ask to speak with the police
