Residents in Motala have been exposed to scams with similar methods on Monday evening.

Women in their 80s have received SMS that appear to be from a child of the affected person, and the affected person is asked to send money.

In one case in central Motala, a woman in her 80s was asked to send 5,000 kronor, which she did. A report of fraud has been filed.

Another woman in Motala received a similar SMS but suspected something was fishy and sent no money. A report of an attempted fraud has been filed.

How to protect yourself from scams
• Do not log in. Do not log in with bank-id if someone calls and asks you to. Do not leave codes from bank cards or credit cards either.
• Hang up the phone. If you are unsure who is calling, you should end the call.
• Do not trust the caller. The person calling can say that you are about to lose money, or that a relative has gotten into trouble. Do not trust the caller even if they have information about you.
• Never let an unknown person into your home. Close the door if you feel uneasy. The police never go to someone's home to pick up bank and/or credit cards or other valuable items. If someone contacts you with such a request, it is a scammer.
• Never leave your identification, bank card or code to anyone else.
• Contact the police. In the event of ongoing crime, call 112. If the crime is not ongoing, call 114 14.
