The Police Contact Centre, PKC, has received several calls from anxious individuals who claim to have received a message/SMS from the police.

The complainant has received an SMS where they are urged to pay traffic fines to the Police Authority and that the sender has sent a link. The scammer wants the person to click further on the link and complete a transaction, the sender comes from different e-mail accounts.

The messages are false and sent by scammers. The police strongly advise against clicking on the link. The cases that have come to the police have had a report of attempted fraud established.

The police do not send SMS/messages like these. The police use letters or mail to digital mailboxes if they want to contact a private individual.
