A new variant of scam attempts via SMS/e-mail is now emerging in large parts of Sweden. Scam attempts have also emerged in Norrbotten, Västerbotten, Västernorrland and Jämtland counties.

The police's contact center, PKC, has received several calls from anxious individuals who claim to have received SMS/e-mail from "the police". The individuals are urged to pay traffic fines to the Swedish Police Authority and the sender has sent a link. The scammer wants you to click further on the link and complete a transaction there.

The messages are false and sent by scammers. The police strongly advise against clicking on the link. In cases that have come to the police, a report has been made regarding the scam attempt.

The police do not send SMS/messages of an economic nature like these.
