Over the past week, several pickpocketing incidents have been reported to the police in the West Region.
The methods used and evidence in the investigations indicate that several of the cases may involve the same perpetrator(s).
The crimes reported to the police so far have been concentrated in Halland and Bohuslän, but organised gangs move quickly across municipal and county borders, and it is difficult to know in advance where they will turn up next.
Therefore, stay alert when you are in crowded places, and take steps to protect yourself against crime.
- Do not leave your valuables unattended.
- Keep a close eye on your belongings in crowded places—for example, in shops or on public transport.
- Carry your bag in front of your body and do not put valuables in the outer pockets.
Do not put valuables in a stroller.
- If you are at a restaurant or café, do not hang your jacket with valuables in it or your bag on your chair. Instead, place your bag on the floor between your feet.
- Put your wallet and mobile phone in an inside pocket, not in your back pocket.
- Do not keep more money or cards in your wallet than you need.
- Avoid keeping your wallet, keys, ID and bank cards in the same place. If you keep everything in one bag and it is stolen, this often causes major problems and expenses.
