About Vi Svenska Fiskare
Vi Svenska Fiskare (VSF) is a member-led, national industry organisation representing Swedish commercial fishing, from coastal and inland fishing to large-scale sea fishing. Our approximately 400 member vessels together account for around 95 per cent of the Swedish catch.
We work for commercial fishing that is sustainable, competitive and profitable in the long term through political advocacy, dialogue with public authorities, and national and international cooperation.

About the role
As Head of Operations, you will have overall operational responsibility for the organisation’s activities, staff, finances and development? You will work on behalf of the board, lead the office independently and work closely with the chair. The working chair is not to be involved in day-to-day work, but will act as the link to the board and is the person to whom the Head of Operations reports.

Main areas of responsibility
lead, develop and monitor the organisation’s activities, with responsibility for staff, finances and results
lead and coordinate industry policy work in Sweden and the EU
represent the organisation and build relationships with politicians, public authorities, businesses and international stakeholders
translate the board’s decisions and objectives into concrete activities and results
develop the office’s working methods, collaboration and efficiency
ensure close and trusting dialogue with members
help develop VSF’s role as a unifying and clear voice for Swedish commercial fishing

The organisation
VSF is a newly formed organisation in a development and recruitment phase. The office is at Fiskets Hus in Gothenburg, and is expected to have around seven staff following planned recruitment, with expertise in industry policy, law, fisheries biology, communications, member services and finance.
As Head of Operations, you will play a central role in shaping the organisation’s future. You will help build the team, clarify responsibilities and working methods, and create an effective organisation where different areas of expertise work together towards common goals.

Who are you?
You are a confident and decisive leader with sound judgement. You inspire trust, turn decisions into action and enjoy engaging with members, employees, politicians, public authorities and partners.
You do not need to have held a senior management position for many years, but you should have experience of leading people and an organisation, as well as the ability to grow into the role.

We are looking for someone with
experience of leadership with staff responsibility.
a good understanding of social issues, politics and business.
the ability to work both strategically and operationally.
excellent communication skills and experience of building relationships and networks.
excellent spoken and written Swedish and English.
the ability to create structure, set priorities and drive work forward

Desirable
leadership experience in an industry, interest or member-led organisation, or in the public sector
knowledge of commercial fishing, fisheries management or the maritime sector
experience of EU affairs, political advocacy or international negotiations
experience of budgeting, financial monitoring and organisational development
an established network in politics, public authorities or business
You do not need to be an expert in commercial fishing. Leadership, commitment and the ability to quickly get to grips with new issues are highly valued.
