Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed some optimism ahead of this week's meeting with the "coalition of the willing." "Now we have a new chance to end this war," the Ukrainian president wrote on Telegram.

Zelenskyy and his negotiators will meet in Paris this week with the leaders of the countries that are part of the so-called "coalition of the willing", including Sweden.

Ahead of the meeting, preparatory discussions were held in Ukraine on Saturday with national security advisors from the member states, and Zelenskyy said that he was satisfied with the information he received.

"We are grateful that we are not alone on the diplomatic path," he wrote, noting that "now we have a new chance to end this war."

According to Zelenskyy, the focus of the Paris meeting will be on "security guarantees, reconstruction and a basic framework for real peace."

The initiative for this week's meeting comes after Zelenskyy repeated in his New Year's speech that the peace plan brokered by the US is "90 percent" complete. He also warned that important territorial issues remain.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) will participate in the meeting in Paris on Tuesday.
