Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is on his way to Turkey to reportedly breathe life into the US-led peace talks with the aggressor Russia.

During Wednesday's visit, Zelenskyy will hold talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.

His goal is to get the United States to "re-engage in peace efforts" regarding the Ukraine war, a senior Ukrainian official told AFP.

Ukrainian sources also claim that US envoy Steve Witkoff will participate in Wednesday's talks in Ankara.

"We are preparing to breathe life into the negotiations and have developed solutions that we will propose to our partners," Zelensky himself writes on X , adding that he is doing everything in his power to end the Russian war of aggression.

“We are also working to resume the exchange of prisoners of war,” he adds.

This summer, relatively low-level talks were held between delegations from Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul, Turkey. The only real progress was an agreement to exchange 1,200 prisoners of war.

The United States has made several attempts to broker talks between Russia and Ukraine, including after President Donald Trump met with Russia's Vladimir Putin in Alaska in August. A second summit between the two in Budapest was scheduled for October. However, it was canceled after talks between the countries' foreign ministers in which Russia refused to soften its tough demands, including Ukrainian land cessions.

The Kremlin announced that no Russian official will be sent to Turkey for Volodymyr Zelensky's visit.
