Between 6 and 9 p.m., the Yellow Vests are calling for a noisy start to this weekend’s demonstrations, which are expected to draw students and trade unions.
In a typical French form of protest, known as “casserolades” (roughly, saucepan concerts), they want to protest against the way President Emmanuel Macron is dealing with public anger.
“They are banning our demonstrations, imposing curfews and closing off city centers to demonstrators. We will make our pots and pans heard outside the windows of members of parliament,” the Yellow Vests said in a statement, according to C News.
“Want to silence”
The Paris police authority banned the routes planned by demonstrators for the weekend on Friday. They are no longer allowed to march from the symbolic Bastille to Nation and Concorde. According to Emmanuel Macron, demonstrations are being kept away from the city center to protect shops that were looted and destroyed during previous protests.
The police have decided that demonstrations will instead take place between Porte de Bagnolet and Porte de Charenton, on the outskirts of the city, according to Le Parisien. This is unacceptable, says L’Unef, France’s oldest national student union, which will challenge the decision in court.
“This proves that the authorities want to silence young people,” Clara Privé, the organization’s treasurer, said, according to [BFMTV](https://x.com/BFMTV/status/2116102492568031524?ref_src=twsrc%255Etfw%257Ctwcamp%255Etweetembed%257Ctwterm%255E2116102492568031524%257Ctwgr%255E6d38f65870b4a6e1ea3c64f43c3befc2697ed51e%257Ctwcon%255Es1_&ref_url=https%25 3A%252F%252Fwww.leparisien.fr%252Fsociete%252Fdirect-colere-sociale-les-gilets-jaunes-appellent-a-des-casserolades-partout-en-france-avant-une-nouvelle-journee-de-mobilisation-samedi-30-10-2026-U5IZWFS5S5EZPC55656MKS5HHM.php).
More security
Security measures are also being stepped up across the country ahead of the weekend - 70,000 police officers and gendarmes have been called in. Several cities are also imposing partial curfews.
In Paris, the restrictions include Place de la République and the neighborhoods around Châtelet, starting at 11 p.m. on Saturday. Other cities, such as Nice, have imposed curfews for minors.
