A woman died after her X-ray results were never reported, reports Ystads Allehanda.
The woman sought care at the emergency department after hitting her head. The X-ray results were interpreted as showing no problems.
But the next morning, the X-ray results were changed to show a bleeding between the skull and brain, something that the emergency personnel never knew, so the woman was sent home.
Three days later, the woman was found on the toilet by home care staff with decreased consciousness and was rushed to the hospital, where she was X-rayed and the bleeding was discovered – but too late.
The woman died from her injuries, and the incident has been reported by the hospital to the Inspection of Health and Care, Ivo, in accordance with the lex Maria.
