+ The Star Duel
The two main names in the match are clear in advance: Argentina's Lionel Messi and Egypt's Mohamed Salah. Messi, 39, is in search of his second World Cup title and to defend the crown from Qatar 2022, while Salah, 34, is Egypt's captain and talisman, chasing the nation's first major global success.
Salah was at his best during the glory days of Cristiano Ronaldo and Leo Messi, but I don't think he has received the recognition he deserves, says Garcia Sanjuan, who was previously assistant coach in Egypt, to Fifa.
If he is already the king of Africa, it would be perfect to crown his career with a win against Messi's Argentina.
Messi is the player who has scored the most goals in World Cup history - 20, one ahead of Frenchman Kylian Mbappé - and shares the top scorer spot in this summer's tournament with seven goals, along with Mbappé and Norwegian Erling Braut Haaland.
The winner of the round of 16 will face Switzerland/Colombia in the quarter-finals, which will be played in Kansas City.

+ The talent savior
The Swiss have reached the quarter-finals on three occasions at the World Cup: 1934, 1938 and 1954. But they have had a tougher time since then. At the last three tournaments, in Brazil in 2014, Russia in 2018 and Qatar in 2022, the national team made it to the round of 16. That's where Switzerland is right now - and they believe they can go further. 20-year-old Johan Manzambi, who lives in Freiburg, Germany, has proved to be the key to national team captain Murat Yakin's side. The star was also behind the early goal in the round of 16 against Algeria, a match that ended in a 2–0 victory. Manzambi has been responsible for three goals and two assists during the tournament.
+ Stable Colombia
Like Switzerland, Colombia is unbeaten in the World Cup. In addition, coach Nestor Lorenzoa's team has proved difficult to score against. So far, the team has conceded only one goal, and that was in the opening match against Uzbekistan. The attack, with Luis Diaz and James Rodriguez in the front line, has produced five goals in four games.
"Colombia is a team with a lot of technical quality. And given their intensity, they can be dangerous at any time. We have to stick together and perform as a team if we want to advance," Yakin said, according to Fifa.
