Woman’s Leg Amputated After Home Health Care Failed to Examine Her Pain

Home health care was contacted several times about a woman’s leg pain, but no nurse examined her. Her leg ultimately had to be amputated.

The woman in Örebro County reported the pain several times, but none of the nurses she contacted examined her. Instead, she was prescribed painkillers over the phone without a doctor's prescription.

This is according to a lex Maria report the municipality filed with the Health and Social Care Inspectorate (Ivo), NA reports.

Finally, when the woman was exhausted and had a discoloured leg with a wound, she was taken to hospital. Doctors diagnosed tissue death and amputated her lower leg.

The municipality believes its home health care service failed to make a proper medical assessment and has therefore reported the incident.
